Bermeo Classical Music Festival 2018

Duo Antwerp

1. ClarimBass (2015) for bass clarinet and marimba

Juan Bautista Meseguer (Spain) *

2. Searching (2005) for bass clarinet and marimba

 Wim Henderickx (Belgium)

“Searching” voor basklarinet en marimba (2005) werd oorspronkelijk geschreven voor altviool en marimba in 1986.

Het werk bestaat uit vijf contrasterende delen, waarbij het basismateriaal bestaat uit het symmetrisch tegenover elkaar plaatsen van intervallen en akkoorden. Vooral het spontane ‘zoeken’ van een jong componist valt op tijdens het beluisteren van dit werk.

3. Wind Across Mountains (1992) for marimba solo

Keiko Abe (Japan)

An emotional, lyrical composition that describes the beautiful nature of Japan, a classical marimba work written by marimba pioneer Keiko Abe.

4. Voltage – (2- Tango, 3- Tambourin) (2013) for bass clarinet solo

Pierre Max Dubois (France)

5. Enyato IV (1995) for bass clarinet and percussion

Ross Edwards (Australia)

Enyato IV is in three short movements: two radiant dances each marked Giocoso (playful) framing an introspective recitative (Profondo e misterioso). The generic title Enyato is extracted from Edwards’ maninya text, an arbitrary nonsense poem dating from 1981, which has had a formative influence on much of his music. Through their musical associations, the “words” maninya and enyato have acquired the meanings dance-chant and contrast, respectively.
Enyato IV was commissioned by Eva Griffith in memory of Heinz Harant, written for Duo Contemporain (Henri Bok/bass clarinet and Miguel Bernat/percussion) for their 1995 tour in Australia. The composer is also well-known in the marimba world with his solo work “Marimba Dances” (1982).

6. (World premiere on 9th August 2018) for bass clarinet and marimba

Chris Hung (Hong Kong) *

The work is inspired by the spectacular Oriental-Western culture of Hong Kong.

7. Duende (2015) for bass clarinet and marimba

Eduardo Nogueroles (Spain) *

8. Mixik Balamil (2014) for bass clarinet and marimba
